A great audio CD

The narrator keeps my 4 year old Son glued to the story. He has few editions of the book but I wanted him to listen to the original Kipling story and did not want to spend hours and hours of reading it by myself. He hardly gets screen time(about twice a month for 30min sessions) therefore listening to stories is the most fun thing in the world for him. He listens to this CD every single day. I have to say that it does not contain any animal sounds or different voices for different characters. Then again, when I read a book for him it is going to be only my voice and my son is quite content with that.

I used this in my classroom as we read "Mowgli's Brothers". The narrator did a wonderful job and brought the story to life. Also, I think it is important to expose students to various accents in their studies.

This is a pretty-looking book but I was expecting something ...

This is a pretty-looking book but I was expecting something more usable. The shape is impractical for a cookbook as it doesn't stay open well. The recipes are complicated for someone who doesn't have much experience with Japanese cuisine. You know how an expert at something often writes instructions over the head of beginners? I thought this book did that.

I continue my search for something more usable. In the meantime, I practice making very simple sushi rolls and using my bento box. Maybe that is as Japanese as my cooking will ever get.

Where Nanban got me was in its studied simplicity with matted pages, looking-down-at-my-plate photography, and modern-aligned recipe format. Where it lost me is in its cohesion, easy made complicated instruction, and not-so-beginner-friendly technique. Sure, it was great to learn about accessorizing your ramen with 'flavor bombs' and the concept of Whippy-San, but even a moderate-level cook like me couldn't quite mete out how to turn Japanese-sourced ingredients that I see everyday into, well, 58% of the finished products featured in the book.

About the Author
Stephen Satchell is a Fellow of Trinity College, the Reader in Financial Econometrics at the University of Cambridge and Visiting Professor at Birkbeck College, City University Business School and University of Technology, Sydney. He provides consultancy for a range of city institutions in the broad area of quantitative finance. He has published papers in many journals and has a particular interest in risk.

Interesting and well put together, but very "British" in its writing style and references, may not be as useful to a US centric investor. Also, some collectibles were heavily overweighted, and some left out. Still, a dense amount of quality material.

Useful look at collecting for fun and, sometimes, profit

Financial advisers and money managers are comfortable with traditional investment vehicles, such as stocks and bonds and, perhaps, real estate. However, an increasing number of wealthy individuals are exploring alternative avenues for profitable investing, including collectibles. Consequently, investment houses and wealth managers need to familiarize themselves with art, stamps, wine, books, classic cars, and the like, to be qualified to advise clients who want to know if their acquisitions will bring in a pretty penny or not. Editor Stephen Satchell's compilation of scholarly essays from a variety of experts on different collectibles - and on the psychology that motivates purchasers - is not a casual read, but it sure is a useful one for money managers whose clients want to cash in Grandma's stamp collection. Much of the material deals with sophisticated economic and business theory, including mathematical formulas and detailed charts and graphs. Still, getAbstract believes that most financial advisers (and collectors) will emerge with a greater understanding of collectible investments - and maybe a hankering for a cherry red and white 1957 Chevrolet.

About the Author
Dr. Scott Besley is Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Finance at the University of South Florida. He earned his DBA and MBA degrees from Florida State University. A well-respected author and instructor, Dr. Besley has published numerous research articles in various academic journals and has co-authored two of the leading textbooks in corporate finance that are used at universities around the world. His research interests include areas of corporate finance, working capital management, governance, and investment anomalies. A frequently requested presenter at professional conferences, Dr. Besley is actively involved in numerous finance and professional organizations. When he is not teaching or pursuing research interests, he is heavily involved in his local community.

Dr. Eugene F. Brigham is Graduate Research Professor Emeritus at the University of Florida, where he has taught since 1971. He earned his MBA and Ph.D. from the University of California-Berkeley and his undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina. Prior to joining the University of Florida, Dr. Brigham held teaching positions at the University of Connecticut, the University of Wisconsin, and the University of California-Los Angeles. A former president of the Financial Management Association, he has written more than 40 journal articles on the cost of capital, capital structure, and other aspects of financial management. He authored or co-authored ten textbooks on managerial finance and managerial economics that have also been translated into 11 languages worldwide. In addition, Dr. Brigham has served as a consultant to many corporations and government agencies.

Needed as Reference for Civil PE Exam

This is listed as one of the references for the Construction session of the Civil PE Exam. I was very glad that I purchased and brought this, as there were a couple questions that I was only able to answer by having it with me.
As stated on the ASCE website, this standard "provides minimum design load requirements during construction for buildings and other structures. It addresses partially completed structures and temporary structures used during construction."

A very good and entertaining read.

Regardless of your interest in the Moon Conspiracy topic (or the debunking of it), Attivissimo's book is a must-read for all enthusiasts of the Apollo missions but also for those who know very little on the subject and want to know more. The book has been crafted with great care to details and, at the end, leaves no doubts on the fact that 12 astronauts actually walked on the moon. The author deals with all the major (and minor) conspiracy arguments and explains well why they are fallacious and why it is easy, for the general public, to believe them. I was one of them, as I believed that man never actually went to the moon, mainly because I could not explain the discrepancies in certain pictures and videos (e.g. unparallel shadow projections, waving flags, etc.). Attivissimo explains everything and will certainly change your mind, if you are in doubt, as his arguments are solid and sound. The right and deserved tribute is given to all those who worked behind the scenes, the astronauts themselves and those who died in the attempt to contribute to space exploration. I commend his work of passion and I recommend it to everyone interested in this topic.

A superb book.

A great collection of many of the points (and much more) that I've been making for years when discussing the Apollo moon landings with those who allow paranoia, suspicion and distrust to rule their lives, where they demonstrate that sense isn't common.

I haven't finished reading it all yet, so the real review will come later as an edit, this is more of a placeholder review.
