5.0 out of 5 stars A Fascinating Tale February 27, 2015 By Karsun Format:Kindle Edition|Verified PurchaseAshmedai: Eden's Guardians is book one of the Eden's Guardian's franchise and of course, tells me that there are more on the way. This book by Ifeoma Okafor-Obi is a tale of Ashmedai, a fallen Demi-God and a mortal who he falls in love with, Linda.
I wasn't so sure at first that this would be the kind of book that I enjoyed but as soon as I got to the first chapter, I was drawn in. While it starts out a little different, by chapter one we get to read about a regular woman just like the rest of us (that is, if you're a woman) and her daily life. The exception to the normalcy is of course, Ashmedai. This is where the story takes an interesting turn and it is certainly a unique book like no other I've read. The writing style was excellent and the story was fascinating.4.0 out of 5 stars `It feels like touching the bare skin on the back of an Adonis, and since I've had poor luck with men, this would do for now.' From the Author
Dear Reader,
Thanks to all of you who read the novel and were kind enough to drop yourcomments and reviews on how to improve it. One reader said 'Finally anauthentic paranormal romance told by a home grown African author.'
I hope every reader can connect with it. Even though I wrote the book, Ihave had a few laughs while reviewing it and so did my editor Lee Ann. Shecalled Ashmedai a 'Modern, Chilling, Steamy End-time Historical Fiction.'
It totally summarized the book for me and I hope you enjoy reading it.
Enjoy

From the Inside Flap
"Why am Inot surprised?"
Out of curiosity she googledthe name "Ashmedai." The options she got made her fall out of her chair insurprise. "Ashmedai - king of demons, Ashmedai and Solomon, Ashmedai inTalmud, Ashmedai - David builds the temple." She suddenly felt his presence andasked, "What do you have to say for yourself?" She got no reply. Why am Inot surprised?
She shut off her laptopin anger and went down the stairs. She still felt his presence. "Pray tell, atwhat time were you going to tell me that you were the king of the demons? Orwas I never supposed to find out?" She still got no reply.
She threw up her arms. Thestory of my life. I meet human jerks on a daily basis, and as if that's notenough, I am now dating demons--not your run of the mill pesky demons; no that's notmy type. I am fraternizing with no less than the king himself!

`It feels like touching the bare skin on the back of an Adonis, and since I've had poor luck with men, this would do for now.'
By Grady Harp
Nigerian author ifeoma Okafor Obi makes her writing debut with this fascinating novel that blends mysticism, romance, and intercultural differences all the while introducing a very beautiful young new author. She has been a finalist in a BBC writing competition, has a degree in Biochemistry and works in Sales Strategy & Business Development as a Commercial Strategy Expert. But writing is her first love and ASHMEDAI is her entry card into the world of published novels.
Ifeoma's writing style is musical and lyrical and she knows how to weave an interesting storyline. The book is short (125 pages) and she makes the most of her ideas in a very brief space. The dichotomy between the spieit world and the human world takes some adjusting to understand the double meanings.
On the author's website there is a very fine distillation of the complexities of the story - something that will help people new to her medium feel a kinship. `Linda was hurt when she realized that her fiance of 2 years had gotten married behind her back. She never saw it coming and decides she needs a break to fix her `bull s*** detection meter'. She relocates to Abuja in her home country in Nigeria to get over the deception and also pursue her lifelong dream of gourmet catering. There she meets her handsome neighbor Anayo. Anayo is a nice and decent man. He had played the field in his hey days but was looking to settle down with a nice woman and start a family. He is strongly attracted to the lady living opposite him. Something about her vivacious character was drawing him in. Ashmedai is a demigod. Handsome and charismatic, he caused a stir amongst the female angels in heaven so was given the prestigious title of Edens guardian and sent to the realm between heaven and earth to rule over Eden with some angels. In Eden, he meets, falls for a lady and marries her even though union between humans and angels is forbidden. As punishment, he was turned to a demon of the flesh with those who fought with him and cast into the 9th level of hell but later released and allowed to live beside Eden. There they became the demons called incubus and succubus. Ashmedai tried again to capture Eden and was trapped in a statue and placed in a cave in modern day Thailand. The statue was discovered and sold on eBay. Anayo accidentally broke the statue and woke him. Ashmedai meets Linda and realises she is the reincarnation of the woman for whom he was banished from Eden. He decides to reinstate himself as an angel to be able to marry her. To achieve this, he needs Anayo's seed for a son and his body. That way he would be a perfect trinity- he would be the father and the son in addition to being a spirit as an angel. Unfortunately for Ashmedai, his ex wives Moriah and Yuki get wind of his activities and put spanners in the works for him. Together with Anayo and a Guardian called Gad, they teach Ashmedai one or two things why revenge is sweet.'
Ifeoma's writing style is full of flavor and fashion and warm humor and is very contemporary. She bears watching - especially as this is Book One of the EDENS GARDENS. Grady Harp, February 15

Travel across Oceans of Time: Search in Depths of Heavenly Dimensions for Eternal Love
By Scarlett Jensen
From Kahlil Gibran: There is someone special for everyone. They come from different generations, travel across oceans of time and the depth of heavenly dimensions to be with you. He takes your hand for the first time and the memory of his touch transcends time and sends a jolt through every atom of your being. That is soul recognition with whom you feel a bond. If both recognize each other, no volcano can erupt with more passion. To find eternal love we go through mystical experiences, chemistry of two bodies, break-ups, commitment or suffer the consequences of unreciprocated love, energy and beauty. In loss of love we experience grief. The soul is immortal and an incredible level of love, intimacy and awareness of a presence, can be felt when a surge of love, warmth, aroma and taste of sweetness is experienced.
Love is the strongest force in the world and is the real source of security and strength. We are also beings of light allowing it to shine like a halo over us depicting our souls in spiritual life.
The ego, or demi-god finds strength when mortals lose their boundaries in immorality, when experiencing anger and loss of peace. Anger eats the soul and with a demi-god, you cannot move to higher worlds. If Ashmedai, the sex -god/ demon of lust inhabits you, you will live a life with a creature expelled from the heavens. Being with Ashmedai leaves you empty and lost.
In this spectacular novel, we meet a writer whom I presume is Nigerian. She puts poetry in her words while she sets her work in Abuja, Nigeria. Her characters have a contemporary style of living in" Edenville "and its neighbouring surroundings. We learn about the protagonists, Linda and Anayo and Zika and Shehu. We accompany them on their journey in search of true love and marriage. The author uses the following themes and settings to construct her story in finding sense in relationships:
The Garden of Eden inspires her to write about Adam and Eve, the serpent (evil) and the tree of life;
The demi-god Ashmedai, temporary decends to earth and flirts with the virginal Linda aiming to leave her with child, a son of immortal kind;
We see how true love expells lust;
How spirits are invoked to deal with the bad; and
Restoration of life and self-preservation is felt throughout the novel. We get a sense of how to eliminate the bad.
To attain immortality for his son, Ashmethai wants Linda to bear his child while he wants to reside in Anayo's body awaiting the birth on earth; We see how egoism falters; We see how the concept of reincarnation and eternal life is nurtured in the story to obtain good; The happy message is that Ashmedai who wants to merge body and spirit, in the likeness of God, is defeated.
We examine -
Temptation;
Awakening of senses;
Seduction, if taken against your will in the name of lust;
Soulmate search;
True love;
Passion;
Lust;
Guardianship;
Destiny and fate;
Recognition of heavenly abode and man as God's creation;
Innocence and safety.Gad is the guardian angel in Edenville; He has the healing hand;
Dreams, trances and consciousness are used to connect with the spirits and after-life; we have spooks in the story; and
Free will and freedom as a gift received through the ability to make a choice between good and evil; By choice and through freedom we obtain wisdom to create a greater good.
Ifeoma Okafor Obi is a worthy craftsman of literature and puts words together with pure wit and intelligence using fresh simile and comparison and demonstrates her ability as a poet.
